According to legend, the French naturalist De Labillardiére gave the species its name because the waxy fruit of the tree resembled a type of button that was worn in France at the time. It is also known as the Fever Tree, and it is mostly grown for its antiseptic properties in unhealthy, low-lying, or swampy areas.
